Hioki, Japan

Hioki is a city located in the center of Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, famous for its pottery industry. Shim Soo-Gwan, who laid the foundation for the flourishing Japanese pottery industry, was born in Namwon. He is one of the representative pottery masters from Korea who brought the pottery of Japan to global fame. The Shim Soo-Gwan Pottery Museum exhibits exquisite masterpieces of the Pottery House of Shim Soo-Gwan in Japan. It aims to exhibit the fine quality of the pottery made in Namwon by promoting the historical facts that pottery technologies were transmitted from Korea to Japan and that potters were moved to Japan and completed the pottery style of Satsuma. It also aims to promote cultural exchange between Korea and Japan and to facilitate tourism and the local economy. Namwon established a friendly tie with Hioki in 2008 and continues vibrant exchanges.

Hangzhou is one of the top ten most beautiful cities in China. It is famous for well-preserved historical artifacts and natural beauty. The city houses old pagodas and cultural artifacts in a well-preserved beautiful natural landscape. The friendly ties between the two cities began started in 2011 and the first traditional wedding event for Hangzhou citizens was held in 2013. Namwon joins hands with Hangzhou to reinvent itself as a sacred place of love, going far beyond its fame as a city of love.
